Florida Native Americans Webquest

Introduction
  Task:

Big 6 step one: "Task Definition:"

You have been divided into 6 groups, representing six of the ten Florida Native American groups: Calusa, Choctaw, Creek, Miccosukee, Seminole, and Timucuan. Working together in your groups, you will go to the "Process" page from the link to the left, and follow the directions for finding information on your assigned tribe. You will be getting information from Web sites through links from this webquest, from non-fiction books in the library, and the encyclopedia. You will write notes of the information you have learned, and then organize your notes to create your class newspaper.

Group roles:

  • All group members will follow the process page and fill out the graphic organizers of information on their assigned tribe.
  • Some members will be the journalists and write an article on their tribe.
  • Some group members will be in advertising and write ads for the food, tools, shelter, or clothing of their tribe. Remember your persuasive writing strategies!
  • Some members will be the artists and create comics relating to information learned on their tribe and help design the layout of the newspaper.
  • Some members will be the archivist and look at primary resources for ideas on the maps, artifacts, and diagrams.
  • All members will be editors and check their work for correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and neatness.
  • Your teachers will assign these roles. Group members may work together to find the information, but all group members are expected to contribute.

Now take a moment to look at the rubric for this project by clicking on the "Evaluation" link at the left. This will help you get a better picture of what is expected. If you do not have a clear picture of what your final product should look like, what do you do? That's right! Ask questions! Do you know when it is due? Do you know if you can work on it from home or just at school? Do you know if you can get help or if it has to be only your work? These are the types of questions you should be thinking of...
